T-Mobile will ready 30 cities for 5G in 2018, including New York and Los Angeles

Briefly taking the stage at a Mobile World Congress filled with 5G announcements, T-Mobile today announced that it will build out its upcoming 5G network in 30 cities during 2018, specifically including New York, Los Angeles, Dallas, and Las Vegas. The carrier also committed to enabling customers to experience 5G “when the first 5G smartphones launch early next year.”

In an earlier announcement, the third-largest U.S. carrier shifted from focusing on its 2020 national deployment of 5G to the prospect that it might start offering services in 2019. While today’s announcement doesn’t change that plan, it demonstrates the rapid pace at which carriers are attempting to establish 5G leadership in the United States.
