How to use the Age Calculator

  1. 1Enter the date of birth.
  2. 2Leave "Age on" as today, or set the cut-off date from your notification.
  3. 3Read your age, total days and the days left until your next birthday.

Supported formats and limits

  • Dates from year 1 onwards are supported.
  • Uses the Gregorian calendar, including leap years.

How the age is calculated

The calculator counts whole calendar months from the date of birth, then the remaining days. If the birth date is the 31st and a month is shorter, the last day of that month counts as the monthly anniversary — so 31 January to 28 February is exactly one month.

For people born on 29 February, the birthday in non-leap years is taken as 1 March.

Recruitment rules sometimes define age limits in their own way (for example "not born before" a date). When a notification gives a specific rule, follow that rule.

Frequently asked questions

How do I check my age for an exam age limit?

Set "Age on" to the cut-off date given in the notification (often 1 January or 1 August of the exam year) and compare the result with the minimum and maximum age.

Does the calculator include the end date?

Age is measured up to, but not including, the "Age on" date — the same way birthdays work. On your birthday you turn one year older with 0 days.
