Image Size Compressor

Shrink image files for email, websites and upload forms. Choose a quality level or a target size in KB and compare the before and after size before downloading.

Drag and drop a file here, or

JPG/JPEG, PNG, WebP · up to 25 MB per file

Your image is processed entirely inside your browser using the built-in canvas feature. It is not uploaded to CentralMirror or anyone else, and it is discarded when you close or leave the page. Privacy policy

How to use the Image Size Compressor

  1. 1Choose or drop an image.
  2. 2Pick how to compress: by quality, or to a maximum size in KB.
  3. 3Choose the output format. JPG and WebP compress much better than PNG.
  4. 4Click "Compress image", compare the sizes and download.

Supported formats and limits

  • Input: JPG/JPEG and PNG (WebP where noted).
  • Maximum file size: 25 MB per image.
  • Maximum resolution: 40 megapixels (for example 8000 × 5000 px), to avoid running out of memory on phones.
  • Camera rotation (EXIF orientation) is applied automatically; other metadata such as GPS location is removed from the output.
  • Input also accepts WebP.
  • Output: JPG, WebP or PNG.

How image compression works

JPG and WebP are "lossy" formats: they throw away detail the eye is unlikely to notice, and a lower quality setting throws away more. Most photos look almost identical at 70–85% quality while being several times smaller.

PNG is "lossless", so re-saving a PNG rarely makes it much smaller. If you need a big reduction and don't need transparency, choose JPG or WebP as the output.

Sizes are shown in KB where 1 KB = 1024 bytes, which is how most upload forms measure files. If a form says "between 10 KB and 50 KB", aim for a target a little below the upper limit and check the minimum too.

Frequently asked questions

How do I compress a JPG to under 100 KB?

Choose "Target size", enter 100 and click Compress. If the photo is very large in pixels, tick "Allow smaller dimensions if needed" so the tool can also scale it down.

Why did my PNG get bigger?

Browsers save PNG files without the extra optimisation some desktop tools use, so a re-saved PNG can be a similar size or bigger. Switch the output to JPG or WebP for real savings.

Is compression reversible?

No. Lost detail cannot be restored, so keep your original file.

Does compressing remove location data?

Yes. The new file is created from the pixels only, so camera metadata such as GPS location is not copied.
