Supported formats and limits

  • Any GST rate from 0% to 100%, including decimal rates such as 0.25% or 3%.

Formulas

Adding GST: GST = amount × rate ÷ 100, and total = amount + GST.

Removing GST from an inclusive amount: taxable value = amount × 100 ÷ (100 + rate), and GST = amount − taxable value.

Within the same state, GST is split equally into CGST and SGST (or UTGST). Between states, the whole amount is IGST.

Which rate applies?

GST rates are set and revised by the GST Council and depend on the exact HSN/SAC classification of the goods or service. The quick-select rates here are for convenience only — confirm the current rate for your item on the official CBIC GST portal or with your tax adviser.

Results are estimates for planning and learning. They are not financial, tax or legal advice — confirm important figures with your bank, a chartered accountant or the official source.

Frequently asked questions

Why isn't removing 18% GST the same as subtracting 18%?

The 18% was calculated on the base price, not on the total. For ₹1,180 inclusive of 18% GST, the base is ₹1,000 and GST is ₹180 — subtracting 18% of ₹1,180 would wrongly give ₹212.40.

Does this calculate cess?

No. Compensation cess or other levies on specific goods are not included.
