JPG to JPEG

JPG and JPEG are the same image format with two spellings of the file extension. Some upload forms only accept one of them — this tool renames the file without touching the image data, so there is zero quality loss.

How to use the JPG to JPEG

  1. 1Choose or drop one or more JPG/JPEG files.
  2. 2Pick the extension you need: .jpeg or .jpg.
  3. 3Download each file, or all of them as a ZIP.

Supported formats and limits

  • Input: JPG / JPEG files only (checked by file content, not just the name).
  • Up to 20 files at a time, 25 MB each.
  • Output: identical image data with the new extension.

Why are there two extensions?

Older versions of Windows limited file extensions to three letters, so "JPEG" (Joint Photographic Experts Group) was shortened to ".jpg". Modern systems accept both, and the image data inside is identical.

If a form rejects your file even after renaming, the problem is usually its size or dimensions — use the Photo Resizer to fix those.

Frequently asked questions

Is JPG better than JPEG?

Neither. They are exactly the same format; only the name differs.

Does this tool re-compress my image?

No. The bytes are copied unchanged, so the file size and quality stay exactly the same.

What if my file is actually a PNG named .jpg?

The tool checks the file content and will tell you. Use the PNG to JPG converter instead.
